Camerata Concerts

Concerts

Kettering Camerata present three main concerts every year:  our programmes at Christmas and Easter tend to draw on repertoire from the mainstream choral tradition.  We often perform in the United Reform Church, London Road, where we are very grateful for the hospitality we receive.    In recent years we have been able to welcome an orchestra or instrumental ensemble to join with us for some of these occasions.  Bach St John Passion, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Creation, Poulenc Gloria, Handel Messian and Rutter Gloria are among the major works we have presented recently to our appreciative audiences.

During the summer term we have worked towards lighter programmes, including partsongs and madrigals, choral arrangements of songs from the shows and folk song arrangements.  Our summer concert is highly popular. It is normally given on a Sunday afternoon in an attractive venue where the surroundings and accompanying tea make an important contribution to the event.  Recent summer venues have included Boughton House, The Bede House Higham Ferrers and Cranford Hall.

Special events

Camerata also enjoys visiting cathedrals, and singing for special occasions and is also invited to sing at weddings, charity events and private parties from time to time.   If you would like to enquire about our availability, please 'Contact Us'

  • In Spring 2005, Camerata welcomed internationally acclaimed composer John Rutter for a choral workshop.
  • More recently,  in 2010, the BBC supported Kettering Camerata in our initiative to bring the experience of singing in a choir to a wider group in the community.... the result was a hugely successful five week course led by the inspiring choral animateur and director, Jo McNally, culminating in a wonderful lively concert in June.  Almost 100 people took part and 4 local choirs  all made contributions in the final concert.
  • Keen to maintain the 'outreach' momentum of Sing Now! 2010, Camerata is hosting a Come and Sing Day in Spring 2011, and hopes to join in the local Kettering Eistedffod Music festival next year.

The social side of the choir is also a really important element  - we enjoy hospitality at various members' homes and, every week, the all important break for coffee in the middle of rehearsal.
